My d16y7 ek just has basic bolt-on's  megan racing header 2.5" cat less exhaust, aem short ram intake and a short throw. But it dont feel any faster than my buddys bone stock d16y7 my question is how much faster should it actually be?

not much..
too be honest you probably only gained 5-7 horespower out of those mods....

I noticed a difference in power after i replaced my exhaust. the previous exhaust was on the car when i bought it. it was a shitty ebay exhaust with a test pipe.

I bought a Apexi ws2 and a magnaflow high flow cat. and felt a difference. more power.. and the ebay exhaust was a larger diameter also...

i remember hearing this car before you bought it, it was straight piped and loud as F*** and annoying. you might want to look into getting a real exhaust, the proper size, and that might help you out a little. but if i were you i would not be worried about how fast my car is if its just a stock single cam with bolt-ons, i would get that thing sounding better and just enjoy daily driving it.    my.02

is motor might just be more healthy, with more compression. not sure about bseries but b18c1 depending on the miles, and the compression numbers. a stock motor can be  anywhere from 140whp to 155whp

and your friend could also be a better driver than you... if you want power, swap it or boost it.  until then, just drive it.
