Street racing is stupid and unsafe all together, I dont care where you are

X2 to that!  I was knocked out at the illegals one year for no reason and put into a hospital.  A nice concussion, 3K medical bill, and the kid that hit me was never caught = me never wanting to street race again at the illegals.

The way I look at running at a track for the first time is this.  Who cares what anyone thinks.  Everyone had to race at the track for the first time at some point and most probably ran even worse then what your car would.  And most of those in the stands have probably never even raced on the track.  Just don't go to the track for the first time with the mindset of wanting to beat each car you line up against.  Be there with the mindset that you want to learn how to actually drive your car and only consider the only "race" to be against yourself.  That being in improving your times each time you race.

My first time racing at the track I ran a 19.1.  Yeah pretty embarrising.  But I'd had fun and continually improved after each run.  I no longer drag race as I've moved on to getting into road racing and autocross but getting into legal drag racing was diffenitly the start which led me to where I am now now.

I disagree, how ever I can see your point on how it would be safer, I believe racing should be sanctioned, and done at designated areas.  RMR is only $7 to watch, and like $20 to compete.  Don't tell me you can afford thousands of dollars in aftermarket parts, but you can't afford the admission price for a ticket.  For any of you "street racers" on here who has never gone to a race track, I invite you to come with me, I will pay your admission, I think everyone should go atleast once, It's just as fun at a track as it is on the street if you ask me.

DEAL!!!!   Grin

X2
first time at the track was in my '85 5.0 ex-highway patrol.  I ran a 17 somethin first pass and a mid 16 on my second pass.  I was catching a lot of guff for my car being slow.  My freind ran it and got a high 14 first run.  not bad for a 130k 5.0 with nothing but long tubes and 2.5" exhaust.  point is I got better, after a few tweaks and about 20 runs I was running mid 14's in a car I had spent about 2 grand on.  going fast takes practice, better to do it in a controlled and legal environment.

just no skill if you race always pay attention to your surroundings no residentials and dont be dumb dont be flyin through red lights or stop signs gotta have your limits or you will get hurt but like there sayin after a while you will get hooked on the track you will eventually even get to a point where its not about beatin the person next to you but tryin to beat yourself by bettering your reaction times 60 foot and over all time down the quarter mile but i will never bad mouth street racing but some people are just not smart enough to race on the street .
