Parts needed for boost by gear
« on: July 01, 2011, 03:47:04 PM »
Hey guys just wondering what parts I need on an obd2 b16 so I can be tuned for boost by gear and so my intake temp sensor will stay in the intake or where to route it in the piping.

Neptune Demon or Hondata S300 with compatible OBD1 ecu, Jumper harness and Mac or Aem valve. You should try to keep the IAT as close to the intake manifold as possible. I would swap to a 2 bolt style and fit it into the manifold if it were me.

Thanks for the info. Can you use just a chipped neptune ecu or do you have to have the demon rtp chip? How strong of a wastegate spring do I need, since boost has to change I was curious if I needed a low spring pressure or what?

I'm pretty sure it can only be done with Rtp may be wrong though. I have the the Mac valve with hondata s300. My wastegate spring is .7 bar (10 pounds) and my full boost pressure is 30psi. It doesn't matter what psi spring you have as long as it is lower than the pressure you want to run. The top side of the wastegate is pressurized and the valve controls how much pressure is allowed in that part of the gate. I recommend running at least .6 bar spring.

I wouldn't Daily a car like that... that's just ridiculous... I would invest in a new DD if it were me... now do what you want but I'm just saying that's not a good idea in my opinion I've seen too many people that DD a car like that and then they get stolen or eomsthing else... Cars like that aren't generally the most reliable either.

It sounded like he was going off what Chase said he's pushing.. Not saying he wants a 30psi DD.

But I wholly agree, way too much for a street car.

Ha ya 30psi is racegas and track only condition. What I was trying to get across is that having that type of boost control you can control the wastegate to double or even triple the base spring pressure. What are you trying to accomplish? Street car, track car or weekend warrior?

I think you're both right... I think I might have misunderstood his last post... I still say a car like that isn't smart to daily drive.

I have everything you need and I can solder the PWM hardware into the ecu if you like. I did 3 today and boost by gear works great.  I set it up different street cars.

I was stating that he was pushig alot of boost. sorry for the confusion. I'm going to be pushing a max of 15 pounds. Will an aem boost solenoid work to control the boost by gear?

The solenoid by itself will not control boost. You will need to tune the boost vs duty map in whatever engine management you are using. If you are using a Honda ecu based engine management you will need the proper hardware installed into the Ecu.

Neptune allows for boost by gear as well as multiple maps: just because you have a car that is 700whp on the track doesn't mean it has to be 700 on the streets. Have Cort set you up 2 maps, one for wastegate spring pressure, and one for higher boost.
