What's Your Latest Project?
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:09:53 PM »
i figure this could be an entertaining thread, the idea is to post up your current or even past projects/experiments relating to cars or not. looking for homemade stuff, cool ideas and such, or just random funny things. pictures should be mandatory, noone wants to know "what you did," without proof!  ;)

i really enjoy tinkering with skateboard stuff, so i'll start it off with what i did this week.

Lowrider Skateboard ::)

got the idea from the funny picture thread and i had to have one myself, just for kicks. (sorry, some are cell pics)

so i found a clearance skateboard at work for $15, and then headed to lowe's for extended hardware. ended up getting some 4" machine screws with nuts.

then i inversed the trucks or whatever and made markings of where to cut

drilled holes to make sawing easier

then chopped it up!

after mounting the trucks on top, i think it's fuckin sweet haha, just need bigger wheels cause my weight flexes the board too much to roll, but it does roll by itself!

favorite picture ;D

CYR, i just had an epic idea that you may steal if you want cause i will probably never make one of these.

anyways, you should bolt another board on top of the trucks, then you could have double decker slammed status. plus it would be way easier to ride with more room for your feet.

why would the middle collapse if it's just like a normal skateboard on top? all it would be is a normal skateboard just with a second lower deck to look cool

So i've been looking for longboard wheels/trucks for my project and a family member up and gave me these for free!

@72mm longboard wheels and nice bearings

Adding these gave the board roughly 11mm of lift and now it's totally rideable, very smooth and fun!

Updated pics:

...So what else is new?

Very nice work. I like it Now put a remote opener on the gate and youd be set ha But seriously i like it.

Thanks man. I'd love to put an auto opener on it. The only one that is powerful enough to open it we sell is 1500 bucks :/. Maybe one day.

Looks damn good Chase!

Thanks Aaron. We need to bust out the meat burner and have some beers.

I just need to take a damn driving test for my license next week or the week after i'll have the love of my life sitting in my drive way, 94 civic EG. she doesn't have a radio so she never says a word or talks back, no power steering so she isn't not driving me out of control, & no a/c so she won't be breathing down my neck all the damn time. but she's a keeper & I love her(:

Will do. I should be free to do them on a weekend after the 5th... or if you have another set of headlights to retrofit i can do them during a week.

Thank god for amazon though, thought i had enough sealant for the set on friday but i will probably be a little short so i ordered more just to be safe and got another trial of prime so the 3 rolls i bought will be here just in time, free 2 day shipping FTW!

here's the "finished" product of my Slowboard Version 2.0 lol

bye bye, trucks

bending up the brackets

my original intent, but riding with the wheels this far out bent the weak threaded rods

i shortened the track up and rode it a bit, now it definitely has some camber and is instantly showing wear lol

now all that's left is to figure out an easy way to chop off the ends of the rods, any ideas?

My question...Why would you ruin a skateboard you can't skateboard on?

That's what long boards are for, LOL

lol, this "skateboard" which i'm "ruining" was $15 and had plastic trucks. doooooon't think i'd take it out and hit the skatepark with it. like i said before, i'm just messing around for fun. at least this modification was in the favor of function over form...trucks were very obtrusive! once i get shorter hardware it'll be even better.

Use a dremel to cut it.
good idea! now i gotta find it...

I'm replacing the piston in my LTR450 with a stock Weisco, and getting a bazazz (Fuel controller) for it. Probably going to get a full exhaust as well instead of the yoshi slip-on that's installed right now.

project ive had the past 2 weeks..
installed and painted type r style lip

vinyl wrapped my spark plug wire cover and put a vinyl sticker i made in my graphics class on it

i know the valve cover paint is really sh***y because i accidentally cooked the powder coat longer than it should have. but i decided i wanted a different color anyways..and thats another project. and its my first vinyl job so its not the best and i plan on retrying that again soon.

removed stock spoiler, found out that the "type r" spoiler wasn't oem like it said it was, so i filled the old holes and drilled new ones. and installed the type r knock off spoiler

now im done with the visual stuff for now..and saving up for my n/a lsvtec build and only have the ls block so far:D

Yea I know how you feel haha. My te was originally red. Then the previous owners painted it silver, then black. So the outside of my car is black. Under my hood, my trunk, and the edges of my sunroof are red. And my door jambs are silver haha:) like a clown car! I plan on saving up money to paint it all myself though. Probably do the engine bay and the trunk when I get $ for my engine build then the rest soon after that:) never painted a car though with a paint gun. Anyone have any tips?

Not really a project but more of a face lift....

New plastics, Hand guards, Skid plate, Case Savers, Eibach heavy rear spring for my fatass, 6k HID head light, R1 style LED tail light and smaller rear signals, Bar clip mirrors, Oversized tank, Shock Sox.... Next will be exhaust and jet kit...

How it was when I bought it....

And as of today....

Making a custom guitar for my girl out of one of my old guitars.

Here's one of my old Guitars I choose:

All ready for sanding

Some of the sanding I've started:

The guitar is going to be repainted metallic purple with painted graphics that say "Chelsies #1", same stock pickups, custom pick guard with skulls, and skull volume/tone knobs.  Next week I'm going to start painting once I get everything sanded down this weekend.

started doing house projects again and started the first part of our Laundry room makeover which was just repainting it for now.

Before:

After:

Part 2 of the remodel should be finished in the next couple weeks as I install a bunch of cabinets above the washer and dryer and a small closet in the corner.

On another note though I need help from you DIYer's out there.  My Water Heater is also in the laundry room but its completly exposed and just an eyesore.  Do you have any ideas on hiding it?

The issue with a bifold door is how tall the area is.  I would need a door to be over 90 inches tall and the only ones I've found that tall run upwards of $600. The area is not framed for a regular door so that's why that isn't an option ether withou additional framing and drywall work.

find some fabric that matches that paint and sew up a curtain, then build a curtain rod... Bam! Color matched curtain and still easy access to the water heater....

Build a pony wall from the top down to the necessary height (6'8"most likely), and instead of using drywall use mdf so you can paint it instead of having to mud and tape. Then you can hang the door, it shouldnt be mor then $80.

I like the curtain idea. Simple, cheap and effective. I could probably get you a door that would fit that opening, but I think it would just look off compared to the other doors in your house. If you want a door I'd frame the opening down.

Started the project of upholstering my Del Sol. This is going to be the only "crazy" part of it (minus audio). The plan (at the moment) is keep it basically stock looking, but use upgraded materials and techniques

Simple target setup for the carbine/nine combo. $25-$35.

The wood is 2x2 if I recall correctly, PVC is 2" as well. Some 3/8" chain from Ace Hardware and appropriate bolts/washers. The 4" & 6" plates I purchased on eBay. They are AR500 steel. Holds up to 9mm as close as 15yards no problem. We used the .223cal at more like 125yds and the steel plates showed no damage. But at 25yrds the .223 takes out chunks and dents the plates. Takes .22LR like a champ all day long of course.

I was worried that the impacts would blow the stand over but it stood up just fine. The PVC legs extend 2' to the front and 2' to the back. The wood frame holds snug in the PVC base but pulls out for storage/mobility convenience.

I'll be making a few more to space apart for a bit more fun. At the end of the day, the hardware and chains were a bit beat up but washers are cheap anyway.
